Project Overview (SPOILER ALERT)

Created to fulfill the final project requirement for CM146 – Media Analysis: Horror Cinema at UH Maui College. This mock film trailer incorporates elements inspired from The Fly (1986), my personal aversion to snails and actual events in space history. Created using Canva Pro. I’ve never had any formal training in video SFX so please laugh with me at my attempt to transform the main character into a snail.

The original storyline did not incorporate inspiration from The Fly (1986), but was based on the idea that snails that had originated in space would somehow fall to Earth and end up in the luggage of a Central American yoga retreat attendee, which would then have its molecular structure altered, resulting in monstrous, fast-growing/multiplying massive snails that take over.

As I started building the storyline, trying to find a place for snails to come from and how to get them to a point where they could fall into Earth’s atmosphere without burning up upon entry proved difficult. My research led to the discovery that Earth snails had actually been taken to space on a couple of separate occasions. This, paired with the news in the current events at that time that astronauts had just come back to Earth after an unplanned extended stay at the International Space Station gave the nudge to move in a different direction.

It was a lot of fun to create. I hope you enjoy it.
